How We Work
The short version: your feed is newest first. Nothing is ranked, boosted or buried, and nobody pays to be seen. This page explains every rule we use, in plain words. If the site ever behaves differently from what's written here, that's a bug, and we'll fix it.
Your Feed
Your feed shows posts in the order they were posted, newest first. We don't score posts, guess what will keep you scrolling, or push anything up or down. Likes and replies never change where a post appears. We load 20 posts at a time, and older ones load as you scroll.
What's in It
- Your own posts.
- Posts from the people you're connected with.
- Posts in groups you've joined.
- Posts from other members tagged with a curiosity you picked, if they've set their posts to Community or Public.
Under each post we tell you why it's there: "Because you're into" a curiosity you share, "From" a group you're in, or "You're connected with" the person who posted it.
What's Never in It
- Posts from anyone you've blocked or who has blocked you.
- Posts you've reported.
- Posts we or a group's admins have removed for breaking the rules.
- Group posts still waiting for an admin's approval (you see your own, marked as waiting).
- Ads, sponsored posts, or posts from accounts you don't know that we think you'll like.
Only Show Connections
Turn on Only Show Connections at the top of your feed, and you'll see just your posts and your connections' posts. That includes their posts in groups you're also in. We remember your choice while you're logged in.
Curiosity Filters
Tap a curiosity above your feed to see only posts tagged with it. Tap it again to hide posts tagged with it instead, and once more to go back to normal. You can filter by several at once. In the list beside your feed, your curiosities with the most posts across the site in the last 30 days come first; the row above your feed is in alphabetical order.
Suggestions
We suggest people and groups only from the curiosities you pick. Nothing else about you goes into a suggestion: not who you message, not what you like, not where you live, and not what you look at.
Friend Suggestions
We suggest up to 5 people who share at least 4 of your curiosities, with the people you have the most in common with first. When it's a tie, people who joined earlier come first. You need at least 4 curiosities yourself to see suggestions. We never suggest:
- People you're already connected with, or have a connection request with.
- Anyone you've blocked or who has blocked you.
- People who chose Hide Me under Show Up in Search.
- People whose curiosities are set to Connections or Hidden, because suggesting them would reveal what they keep private.
- People who haven't confirmed their email address.
Group Suggestions
On the Groups page, we suggest up to 12 groups you haven't joined that share curiosities with you. Groups with the most curiosities in common with you come first. When it's a tie, larger groups come first, then alphabetical order. Private groups, and groups whose page only members can see, are never suggested.
Curiosities
The Curiosities page shows the 10 curiosities the most members have picked. If a friend invited you, we also show the curiosities they picked, so you have a place to start. When you search for a curiosity, the most popular matches come first.
Mentions
When you type @ to mention someone, we suggest the people in that conversation first, then your connections.
Search
Search looks for your words in people's names and usernames, posts, group names and descriptions, and curiosity names. It forgives small typos and finishes the word you're typing. Results are ordered by how well they match your words; among posts that match equally well, newer ones come first. Search doesn't consider how popular someone is or who you are. It only ever shows what you're allowed to see, and people who chose Hide Me only show up for their connections. If our search service is briefly down, people, groups and curiosities are listed in alphabetical order instead, and posts newest first.
How Connecting Works
- Asking. When you ask to connect, what happens depends on the other person's setting. If they chose Automatic, you're connected right away. If they chose I Approve, they get a request and decide.
- Asking back. If someone has already asked to connect with you and you ask them, you're connected.
- Saying no. If someone declines your request, we don't tell you. You can also cancel a request you sent.
- Ending a connection. Either of you can remove a connection at any time. We don't notify the other person.
- Blocking. Blocking someone ends any connection, and you stop seeing each other's profiles, posts, replies and messages. We don't tell them.
- Limits. To stop spam, you can send up to 100 connection requests a day.
Notifications
We notify you when someone likes, replies to or passes on your post, asks to connect, accepts your request or connects with you, invites you to a group, approves your group post, makes you a group owner, or wants to send you a secure message. Notifications are listed newest first. If someone likes your post, unlikes it and likes it again, you get one notification, not three. We don't send emails or alerts to pull you back to the site. The only emails we send are about your account, like confirming your email address or resetting your password.
What We Never Do
- Sell your information or show ads.
- Let anyone pay to reach more people.
- Rank posts by how much attention they get.
- Show like counts or follower counts. Only the person who posted sees who liked it, by name.
- Use AI or hidden scores to decide what you see.
- Let bots sign up or post.
